Artist's Comments
I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who used to adore Pikachu, but gradually became sick to death of it. I always hoped the series would find some new mascot and let the precious electric rat retire from the spotlight. Then while in Japan, I visited a Pokémon Center and was surprised to find that Piplup was everywhere, way more prevailant than Pikachu. That trend didn't hold, and it seems Pikachu will forever remain on top, but that Piplup moment inspired me to do a sketch in 2010. I forgot about it until three years later, when I did a new sketch, looking for a better pose. Then I forgot about it again and now (2023) I've long since lost interest in ever turning it into a proper gallery piece, so here are both sketches together.
